Leadership Hui — Term 1

This week, we brought together our WSLs, ASLs and members of their Senior Lead Teams to begin to explore aspects of leadership. Building on feedback from last year, we are strengthening our leaders' ability to effect change with their colleagues through their inquiries and projects. Supported by Evaluation Associates, we began this year with a hui that focused on relational trust as a foundation for leading change.

With this key idea from Bryk and Schneider in mind, and with our own rich experiences and prior knowledge to the fore, we:

• pooled our understandings about the characteristics that contribute to developing a culture of relational trust,
• shared how we think we build a culture of trust in the work we do
• touched on the determinants of relational trust and 
• began to look at what creates a trusting team.

We asked ourselves how far what we think we do and what we actually do are aligned, and how we know! WSLs then had a brief time together with their ASL to begin to unpack the work they are doing and how these ideas connect.  This is the beginning of this kōrero for our leaders and we look forward to building on their strengths and needs as we plan our Term 2 hui.
